Raving 101: First-Timer Raver Tips

Do you remember your first rave? My first rave was 6 years ago and since then I’ve attended countless of them over the years and have learned a few things. Your raving experience can be awesome, but can be challenging if you are a newbie. There is a lot more to it than just “Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat”.

If you are thinking about attending your very first rave, here are tips that should help you conquer it!

Dress Properly

Ladies, I know you want to show off your nice heels but please leave those at home. I can’t count the number of times I go to a rave and see girls in heels. That is a rookie mistake. Raves last hours and if you want to make the most of it and dance all night, wear comfortable shoes! Avoid ankle socks as well, the blisters are bound to happen. Keep your dancing feet happy and wear tennis shoes.

Stay Hydrated

Buy yourself a hydration pack or bring a reusable water bottle. Most raves have water refill stations and they are free, so take advantage of them. You will also be saving yourself some money since you don’t have to buy a water bottle. Personally, I use a hydration pack from Vibedration. They have tons of styles to choose from and are affordable. If you decide to get one, you can use code “marxoxo” for a discount at checkout.

Read Festival Guidelines

Every event will have on their website a list of “Do’s and Don’ts” outlining the rules. Every show is different, what one might be allowed in, the other might not. Items like gloves and kandi may not be allowed at some venues while they are accepted at others. Be sure to read the guidelines before the festival to avoid having to throw things away or heading all the way back to your car to put your stuff back.

Have A Meetup Spot

If you are attending the rave with a group of friends, designate a meetup spot before entering the festival. A place that is easy to find is recommended. If you ever get lost and can’t find your friends, go to the spot. Don’t rely on technology. Texting friends sometimes won’t work because of the poor service you may encounter.

Arrive Early

Arriving early will help minimize your wait time in a line. The line to get your ticket scanned and then go through security can get long. Also, arriving early allows you to check out more music and you have more time to roam the festival grounds.

Prepare The Week Before

It’s important to prepare at least a week before, if the festival is longer than one night. Get a good night’s sleep, stay hydrated, take vitamins, and eat healthy. Raving can turn into an entire night of no sleep and you need to prepare your body for the energy you will be using up over the weekend. If possible, take a day or two off work afterwards for recovery and sleep.

Have Fun

Lastly, have fun! Don’t worry about making a schedule and seeing everyone on it. Discover new music, go see a DJ you’ve never heard of or try listening to a different genre you are not familiar with. Be smart and safe.  Be kind to those around you, keep PLUR alive and make amazing memories!
