After months of strict social distancing requirements and lockdowns due to coronavirus, those that reside in France are officially free to enjoy live music and events without social distancing requirements. As of yesterday, the French government has approved any events (both indoor and outdoor) with less than 5,000 in attendance. This includes theaters, nightclubs, movie theaters, and concerts. This makes France the first country to approve larger scale events without a requirement to follow social distancing for live events.
While social distancing is not required at such events, it is required to wear a face mask at all events. This news has been confirmed by both the French Prime Minister Jean Castex and the French Culture Minister Roselyne Bachelot. According to statements released by each, there will be certain red zones that continue to remain on tighter restrictions including the capital Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and Bordeaux. Other than the restricted areas, the Prime Minister has encouraged people to attend events, stating “I say to the French people, go to the cinema, go to the theater, you don’t risk anything.”
